The multiple tab functionality makes it easy to seamlessly switch between different areas of your instance without losing your place, and keeps important tabs open without cluttering your own browser.

Enabling Multiple Tab Functionality

The multiple tab functionality can be enabled in two areas.

Prerequisites

There are three prerequisites for the tab functionality to show. First, you must switch to the 2025 UI in Configuration > Advanced Settings > Appearance.

Second, the tree menu display must use the undocked format.

Third, your browser window width must be above 1000px.

Enable Globally

Just underneath the tree menu display is the global setting for all agents (Configuration > Advanced Settings > Appearance). Change the "Halo Tab Display" field to show multiple tabs per browser tab.

Enable for an Agent

The agent preferences can override the global setting if set differently on their agent profile > Preferences tab > Appearance.

Choose which Halo Area Tabs Open in

Once tabs are enabled you will have the option to set the "New tab location".

Fig 5. New Tab Location

Here, you can specify the path that should be used when a new tab is opened, this path will be appended to your Halo instance URL.

For example, if you would like the Configuration area to open when a new tab is opened change this to /config, if you would like this to open your homepage change this to /home.

Note: If the agent does not have permission to access this area of Halo an error will appear, therefore it is best to choose an area all agents have access too (such as the homepage).

To find the path of an area in Halo, simply navigate to that page and view the path in the URL.

The additional path /newtab is also available, which shows a new page containing the module selection menu. This page is not customisable but allows agents to easily navigate to other areas of Halo.

The new tab location can be set globally under Configuration > Advanced Settings.

From v2.248+ it can be set per agent under the Agent's preferences.

If set against the agent, this will override the globally set path for this agent.

Defaults can be set for how you wish the multiple tabs to function in Configuration > Advanced Settings > Appearance, or in the Preferences tab of the agent profile.

The first option is the list preview mode default.

If set to "Open in a new Halo Tab", when opening something from a list (i.e. a ticket, an asset), it will open the ticket in a new Halo tab automatically.

The second option is the popout display default.

Setting this to "Open in a new Halo tab" will mean that any existing functionality that would previously open in a new browser tab or modal window, will now open in a new Halo tab instead. For instance, right clicking on a module in the navigation menu will open it in a new Halo tab instead of a new browser tab.

Using Multiple Tabs

Opening Tabs

To add a new tab, click the plus (+) icon on the side of the last tab in the row.

You will then be taken to the area of Halo you set as your 'New tab location'.

Side Pane

If opening any of the side panes in the top right corner, such as the Notifications pane, switching tabs will still show the pane at the side of each screen you change to (until it is closed).

Closing Tabs

To close a tab, hover over it and click the cross (X) that appears. If you close a tab you are currently viewing, you will automatically switch to the one before or after it.

Duplicating/Closing Tabs

You can right click on a tab to show the option to either duplicate or close it. This will create a new tab in the same area of Halo that can then be clicked on.

Shortcuts

When viewing an area of Halo that has sub-areas (like Configuration), you can hover over the area and click this to navigate to that area.

i.e. When viewing Advanced Settings, you can click Configuration to go back to the main configuration menu.
